Veterans Day, 2001
Veterans Day, 2001, was a special day of remembrance. Our military forces are now fighting the battle to punish the perpetrators of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks while many of our firemen, policemen and others are continuing to clean up the ground zero area, in New York and at the Pentagon.
The veterans day weekend found many military veterans, active duty and friends of the Church of God Ministry to the Military, convening at the Holiday Inn, Mountain View, in Cleveland, Tennessee, for the sixth annual RECALL U.S.A. Testimonies of God's grace and protection were shared by the RECALL participants. Robert Moore, International Director of the Ministry to the Military moderated the times of worship and sharing. Chaplain Robert Jenkins spoke Friday night of his unexpected opportunities for ministry at the Pentagon, following the crash of the terrorist flown plane. Travantha Miller testified of God's saving grace, how she was led to Jesus through a Ministry to the Military center service. Roy Humphrey reported on the Far East (there are centers in Korea, Japan, Guam and the Philippines) with special emphasis on the humanitarian ministries reaching out to the people close to the former Clarkview Air Force Base in Angeles City, Philippines. The Clarkview and Humphrey Centers along with other outreach ministries located there, reach out to American military retirees, Amerasian (Filipino-American) children, Street children (homeless and/or abandoned), and others located in the area surrounding the Clarkview and Humphrey Christian Centers in Angeles City, Philippines. Danny Ard spoke about the ministry of the Beaufort Church of God to the marine recruits at Parris Island marine base, South Carolina. Ministry to the Military is seeking to replicate their ministry at every training base in the U.S.A. There are presently ministries at Lackland Air Force Base in San, Antonio, Texas; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Biloxi, Mississippi; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in addition to the work at Parris Island. We're working toward having ministry to the military outreaches for all military training bases. Numerous others spoke about blessings they received as they reached out in ministry and how Ministry to the Military reached out to them with the Gospel message. Owen and Kaye Martin, Center Directors in Gaeta, Italy for over 20 years, were honored with a special presentation and fellowship time from folks who had formerly been stationed in Gaeta. The free time, Saturday afternoon and following the evening sessions, was filled with reminiscing and fellowship. Ministry to the Military camaraderie is not easily forgotten. Many related that the RECALL refreshed fond memories of the worship and fellowship enjoyed at the Ministry to the Military Christian Servicemen's Centers during their overseas tours. Calendars have been marked for the 2002 RECALL U.S.A., which will be held November 8 through 10, 2002, at the Holiday Inn, Mountain View in Cleveland, Tennessee.
